Join filmmaker Sharon Pippos for a special heritage event featuring the 45-minute documentary Echoes of the Past—a deeply personal exploration of the Prussian immigrants who fled religious persecution and arrived in South Australia in 1838 to build new lives. Filmed entirely in Hahndorf and featuring respected voices, including descendants of the original settlers, the documentary brings to life stories of faith, resilience, community, and cultural identity that continue to shape the region today. Keith Conlon is a guest presenter in the documentary. Through intimate interviews, historic imagery, and evocative locations, 'Echoes of the Past' offers rare insight into the people behind the history and the enduring legacy they left.
In the decades that followed, thousands of German Lutherans moved out from these original settlements into other parts of the colony in search of land, including the Riverland and other agricultural districts. By the late 19th century, German‑Australian farming families were present in many regions of South Australia.
Following the viewing a talk on Germanic architecture will be provided as well as a display of tools and joinery. Afternoon tea provided.
